A Curated Selling Exhibit Honoring Iconic and Emerging Urban Artists for the Public to View, along with the Highly Anticipated Saturday Brunch

MIAMI BEACH, Fla., Oct. 18, 2017 –Sagamore Hotel Miami Beach returns to Miami Art Week for the 16th year, celebrating its claim to fame as a “hot-spot” for artists, collectors, and exhibitors from around the globe. This year, the hotel will continue the tradition with its ongoing series #SagamoreisArt, presenting URBAN LEGENDS, a curated selling exhibit showcasing the works of iconic and emerging urban artists that will remain on display from December 4, 2017 – January 4, 2018.

“This year marks an influential time for the Sagamore Hotel, as we endure long-lasting relationships with the art and cultural community. We’ve created a platform to allow both recognized and upand-coming talent to utilize the property to present their creativity whether it be through art, music, fashion or food,” explains Ronit Neuman, Sagamore Hotel’s Co-Principal.

The theme URBAN LEGENDS pays homage to the culture and history of urban street art and allows artists to communicate directly with the public at large. These artists often show socially relevant content infused with aesthetic value to attract attention and to a cause a form of Art Provocation. “Urban artists are a testimony of our societies and are our contemporary poets. Through their works, they share our stories and discuss the evolution of our world, they are telling our modern legends,” explains Sebastien Laboureau, Sagamore Hotel’s Art Advisor, and urban art specialist.

During Miami Art Week, Sagamore will showcase some of today’s most influential names in the urban art community through an ongoing exhibit and live happenings. The artists exhibited will include ABSTRK, Jojo Anavim, Bambi, Banksy, Jean-Michel Basquiat, Philippe Bonan, Cranio, MrD1987, D*Face, Demsky, Faile, Shepard Fairey, Romain Froquet, Inkie, Invader, Joe Iurato, Kai, Kan, Keith Haring, L’Atlas, Logan Hicks, Jenny Perez, Pimax, M.Chat, Miss Tic, Zevs, and many more in partnership with numerous international art galleries, and curated by Sebastien Laboureau. In addition, the hotel will showcase an exceptional mural attributed to Banksy compliments of FAAM, entitled “Cave Man,” a wall presenting an iconic visual, painted in LA in 2008.

The URBAN LEGEND exhibit will be open for one month, to the public, welcoming guests to peruse the art at their leisure 24/7 with complimentary admission or can arrange for a private tour with the hotel’s resident art advisor, by appointment only. Most pieces will also be available to purchase.

From December 6 – 8, 2017 the hotel’s monthly program, “The Art of Happy Hour” (5 PM – 7 PM) will present Crushes, Cocktails and Conversations with award-winning innovator and host of the Innovation Crush podcast, Chris Denson. During these times Innovation Crush will host a series of live recordings for the public to join and will be accompanied by a fun and interactive artificial intelligence showcase and celebrated leaders of the global cultural community. In partnership with Arts Business Council of Miami, Chris Denson will be the featured keynote speaker at the annual Breakfast with Arts & Technology, hosted by Brightline on December 6. The presentation will be followed by an audience discussion moderated by Leigh-Ann Buchanan of Miami Venture Cafe.

Concluding the week, Sagamore Hotel Miami Beach will continue with the iconic Saturday Brunch on December 9 from 9 AM – 1 PM hosted by hotel’s new ownership along with Diamond Sponsors BNY Mellon Wealth Management and Chubb Insurance. Additional sponsors include Wells Fargo. The invitation-only event will showcase an inspiring program of live music, art and culture including a performance by South Florida’s leader in genre-bending musical exploration, Nu Deco Ensemble at 10 AM and Noon. The feature presentation will include an innovative and compelling, site-specific chamber music experience that will integrate with the Sagamore’s art exhibits, activations, and architecture. The morning will also feature a joint dance interlude from Cuban Classical Ballet of Miami and Grace Arts FL.

Cuban Classical Ballet of Miami + Grace Arts FL – Lead choreographer Isanusi Garcia Rodriguez, formerly a principal dancer for the Miami City Ballet and Cuban National Ballet, is working with Clare Vickery and Pedro Pablo Pena, Creative Directors for Grace Arts Florida and Cuban Classical Ballet of Miami respectively. Together they will produce a variety of choreography for the multidisciplinary performances in 2017-2018, including a tropical version of Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet with folkloric, classical ballet with Miami actors called La Florida, to debut in 2018. Folkloric dance is rich in African and Spanish culture while the classical ballet evokes images of old world elegance and a fresh perspective on colonial era life in what became Miami and Florida.
